Hi! Real quick.. I just wanted you to know how much your web page on Kafka is greatly appreciated. I checked out the web about a month ago and didn't really get far. But since I'm back this time around there seems to be few changes (more sites). As I am writing a paper on Kafka and "The Metamorphosis", I find your site to be of trmendous assistant. It's great to see someone so intrigued by Kafka to dedicate a web page to a great writer. For I myself am not a lit major, and I'm only doing this paper to pass this one Eng. class. However, I have been taken by his writing and plan to get better aquanted with his other stories. Anyhow, sorry about my rambling on. Oh and by the way I read some of your personal stuff and I find what you have to say are pretty interesting and entertaining.. Thanks!

I just wanted you write and tell you that I was thoroughly impressed by your website. He (Kafka) is one of my favorite writers and at the moment I was (am) surfing for info on him to inspire a design for a book jacked for "The Metamorphosis" (I am (a literate) art major) (I also like using my punctuation creatively)
(thankyou for posting an intelligent site in a web of mess)

I am a high school student who is writing a paper on Metamorphosis. I like to get ideas and opinions from pepers on the internet, but I never copy them because my teacher would know I am not that good at writing. But any how, I just wanted to thank you for setting up this one. I took a lot of your ideas and combined them with my paper. It helped me out a lot. I wish more people took the time to help others out with stuff like this like you did. Thank you

Hey!!!! Thank you for providing a Kafka website! The info you provided saved my paper on his life and I am so glad your site was available (and not in german!) I was very interested in your thoughts on the metamorphosis, which aided in my writing and paralleled many of my own thoughts. If you find out any more neat things about him, please e-mail me, ok? Once again, I thank you.

having humiliated myself totally by confusing kafka with capra in a conversation with a man i was rather hoping to impress, my research led me to find your site. you will be disgusted to learn that i got as far as the bit where he opens the door in metamorphosis, found the rest of your site, got totally distracted, laughed my head off, and managed to thoughroughly impress the guy in question all in one go. what can i say, but thank you

Hi there. I just wanted to say thank you for putting up a page on Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis" I found your notes especially helpful. I mean even though I had a vague idea about what the story was about, I really had no idea on what to write my paper on. Your notes helped me out a lot! Thanks!

Hi- I just wanted to say thank you for such an informative site. We are currently studying Kafka's Metamorphosis in My AP English class. I found the book to be extremely intriguing and wanted to do a little post research. This site helped me gain further insight into the book, Kafka's life, and the deep symbolism. Thanks Again

hi. first, thanks muchos, i could not find the fulltext version of the metamorphosis *anywhere* (on the internet)...and being me, i lost my friend's copy...whoops. the whole time i was thinking...what kinda person even has the time to type out the entire story!--as short as it is. so, came back to your site for more kafka/metamorphosis research...and decided to just look around somemore...neglecting my mammoth presentation due in a couple of hrs. it's all worth it. i spent forever reading just a whole buncha useless stuff that will most likely serve me no purpose, but i do think i gained some perspective which is more valuable than all the subjective, concrete stuff i could otherwise be picking up. you've got some very mind stimulating stuff there...i just gotta tell ya that you're insane...who sits in the hamburger store and contemplates, analyzes to death, the corrupt THEMS and the even stupider US' in the world? but then again, you're the guy who typed metamorphosis... i'm just thinking...yummy hamburger...i'm content...that's just the way things are...it's simply inevitable...humans aren't genius'...end of story. i'd go nuts if i thought as much as you seem to...regardless the subject matter, just the thinking in itself is an effort. then again, maybe it's an admirable quality...i don't know.
thanks for making something great readily available...it was a fun time...take care...if you can get around to it, write... don't think i'll actually get around to completing my sole purpose of getting on the internet...ohwell...

I just wanted to thank you so much for all the help that you give to students, like myself who may not understand the writings of Kafka. My senior World Lit class had to read The Metamorphosis and I didn't understand it at all. Thanks to your page I not only understood the meanings but I also chose to use his work on my Final exam. Thanks for also putting down the questions of others to give everyone the chance to better understand his work. If I do well on my exam then you can count on it being sent your way. Thanks a billion!

hello-
my english composition class is studying metamorphisis currently. i personally had a hard time reading it and had an even harder time interpreting it. it is my understanding that metamorphisis has bee interpreted many ways. but through searching all over for some kind of help on what any of these posible interps were, i only found your take on the story. i was very impressed and found it really interesting to read. i now see the story much clearer.
i plan to tell the other people in my class about the site. we have a paper due by the end of the week so you might be getting some hits. after my paper is completed and returned i will e-mail it to you with what my english proffesor thought of it.

I read the other comments about your Kafka site. I don't care how many people tell me otherwise, all literature is open to a personal interpretation. Anyone who decides that a text MUST be interpreted in one way is dumber than a person who believes 'The Judgement' was about a butterfly.
The reason is because the first person has tunnel vision and the other person is thinking laterally. Okay, so maybe it is impossible for anybody to see what a butterfly has to do with anything. BUT YOU'RE NOT THE PERSON WHO SAID IT!! So, don't expect to understand it.
Kafka never cared what other people thought, so why should anyone else?

Thanks alot for your fascinating insight into the world of Kafka, I find your thoughts on "The Metamorphosis" both challenging and stimulating and it is obvious that you have a great and rare insight into the mind of Kafka.
Have you considered adding the short story "For the consideration of amateur jockeys" to your website? In my opinion this one of the best and most underrated of Kafka's works.

I recently saw a performance of Steven Berkoff's version of Metamorphosis at King Alfred's College in Winchester (UK), and, just out of interest, I looked up his name on the old 'net.
I was quite surprised to trace the play back to Kafka, having heard much about him from some teachers, yet not having read any of his work.
It was a delight to be able to read the original version of The Metamorphosis, and I loved making comparisons between the original, and the play.
Thankyou, is all I can say for your wonderful site (although rather strange it is, what with the stick men) and for getting me well and truly hooked on Kafka.

"...in the beginning of the story, he can still speak english, and his family can still understand him..."
you wrote this. while your essay is insightful and well-written, this makes me smile. i get your point anyway, but...
the fictional Samsa family probably lives in Prague, a century ago, so the chances of them speaking english are pretty slim. they most certainly spoke German (like Kafka's family) or Czech or possibly Yiddish. perhaps a subtle distinction, but while there are universalities in kafka, the culture needs to be correctly interpreted, not dismissed and replaced by our own. even when kafka writes about america, it is a distinctly prague-german-jewish view of america, and not much like the real america at all.

Hi, Thank you for your insight on the metamorphosis. I have to write a short paper on this short story and it was great to get someone else's opinion of the short story. I read it once in high school and decided to reread it only to find that I interpreted this story in a different way each time. So I thought that I would find out what other peoples insight were on this story.
Thanks again:-)

I find your site note not very useful, and by the way your i's are very irritating. However I do have a few suggestions, the way your website presents you as a person seems to be very laid back and a bit too lazy, if you're going to have a website on Kafka you should do it properly as he at least deserves something better then this. As well how you commemorate the people who have visited your website as "at least---people have boring lives" I find is silly and a let down. Truly get rid of this website or do something better with it. Especially with your "answerings" of your own questions about humans and beasts. Clean up your grammer!! For a person saluting Kafka and enjoying his novels, I'm not saying you have to be a complete "english major" to enjoy him but they way you present yourself as a "know it all or something" on Kafka you just might want to change your style.
Anyways, that's my views on this website do whatever you want with my opinions.

Hello Brian... Well, I must say, it was a nice suprise to get a letter from you. I am a senior in high school, and in my Advanced Placement English class, we are studying Kafka's Metamorphosis. My very controversial and often stubborn english teacher insists that Kafka was in fact homosexual, and The Metamorphosis was his way of "coming out", so to speak. I, myself, am unsure as to what to believe. But I think you are right for the most part: it's a rumor that all lovers of Kafka knows exist, but believed only by those who want to read into that way. Anyway, thank you for your reply. And I think it would be neat if you did start a new Kafka chat room association. I can tell it would be quite popular.
Thanx again :)
